Learn how number-based Meihua Yishu casting works: the first number sets the upper trigram, the second sets the lower trigram and the third sets the moving line. The original and changed hexagrams then frame the present and its possible movement, turning each reading into a clear moment of reflection.
Our rule is simple: number one chooses the upper trigram, number two chooses the lower trigram, and number three chooses the moving line. The two trigrams form the six-line original hexagram; flipping the moving line creates the changed hexagram.

Number 1
Where you most want to go right now
3 ÷ 8, remainder 3 → Li (Fire)

Number 2
How your surroundings respond
8 ÷ 8, remainder 0 becomes 8 → Kun (Earth)

Number 3
Where to focus your next step
6 ÷ 6, remainder 0 becomes 6 → line six moves
For trigrams, remainder 0 becomes 8; for a moving line, it becomes 6
Use remainder after division by 8 for each trigram, and by 6 for the moving line. A zero remainder becomes 8 or 6 respectively.

Li above Kun forms Hexagram 35, Fire over Earth. Line six changes from yang to yin, turning the upper trigram into Zhen; the changed result is Hexagram 16, Thunder over Earth.
The six lines are counted from bottom to top: the bottom is line one and the top is line six.
8 divided by 8 leaves zero, so the trigram is Kun (8). 6 divided by 6 leaves zero, so line six moves. A third number of 8 leaves a remainder of 2 when divided by 6, so line two moves. Zero is a remainder, not a number you need to draw.
starwishtemple uses the three-number rule published here, with each wish number drawn from 1 to 8. This online experience adapts Meihua Yishu concepts. It does not reproduce a particular temple’s numbered sticks or fortune poems, or speak for a deity or religious organization. Other traditions may use different casting rules.
The trigrams and moving line are calculated by fixed rules. AI then writes the wish slip using that original hexagram, changed hexagram and selected topic; it does not choose or redraw the hexagrams. The numbers on this page are teaching examples, not your personal result. The homepage wish-slip image is also a sample.
